
AUSCRS 2025 – the annual conference of the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons – will take place in Darwin from 16–19 July 2025.
Convened by AUSCRS co-Presidents, Dr Jacqueline Beltz and Professor Gerard Sutton, the theme for this year’s event is ‘Disconnect to reconnect: Experience the Top End in every sense’.
Taking place at the Darwin Convention Centre, on the spectacular Darwin harbour, AUSCRS features dedicated educational programmes for advanced trainees, doctors, and support staff, as well as platinum sponsors’ breakfast and dinner symposia. This year’s programme features ophthalmologists from Australia and several other countries.
The prestigious 2025 Barrett/Wolfe Lecture will be delivered by Professor Michael Knorz, an internationally recognised expert in the field of refractive surgery and cataract surgery.

Other speakers include Drs Basak Bostanci (Istanbul), Alice Epitropoulos (USA), Sri Ganesh (India), David Lockington (UK), Cathy Mc Cabe (USA), Jod Mehta (Singapore), Ravi Patel (USA), Sathish Srivanasen (Scotland), and Roger Zalvidar (Argentina).
The popular AUSCRS film festival continues this year with speakers, surgeons, and trainees invited to submit video/film containing interesting, challenging or complicated cases they have encountered. Submissions are due by 6 June 2025.
The gala dinner, themed ‘Everything is new again: Disconnecting from our present and reconnecting with the past in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s’, will take place on the Saturday evening, concluding the conference.
