Optometry Giving Sight has been chosen as the nominated charity for the BCLA for the next twelve months.
“We are delighted to have been chosen as this year’s nominated charity,” said Bob Chappell, Chairman of Optometry Giving Sight in the U.K. “We feel a particular affinity with the BCLA given the incredible support that we receive from so many organisations involved in the contact lens industry.”
Mr Chappell said this support was having a dramatic impact on the lives of people who are blind or vision impaired due to uncorrected refractive error – and was also helping to galvanise support from other sections of the optometric industry.
So far, more than AUD$1 million has been allocated to sustainable development projects in Sri Lanka, South Africa, East Africa, East Timor – and most recently, Latin America.

With the ongoing support of optometrists, their staff, patients and industry, Optometry Giving Sight hopes to raise sufficient funds over the next two years to support projects that will screen five million people; provide 142,000 pairs of glasses; train almost 1,000 people in basic refraction and vision correction; and establish more than 100 vision centres and optical workshops.
