Australian Optometrists, patients and staff raised almost AUD$150,000 through the World Sight Day Challenge. The funds raised will enable Optometry Giving Sight to continue funding programs in places such as Mozambique, where 15-year-old Virginia received her first pair of glasses. At -13.00DS in her right eye and -7.00DS in her left it was virtually impossible for her to see the chalkboard at school. Her new glasses will literally transform her life and help her follow her dream to become a teacher.
Independent optometry group Abernethy Owens Optometrists in Western Australia raised an impressive AUD$3,670 from consultation fees on 8 October and collection boxes in their seven practices.
