Luxottica’s Senior Vice President of HR and Communication, Asia Pacific and Africa, Rhonda Brighton, has been awarded the prestigious Hudson Private and Corporate Sector Award at the national finals of the 2009 Telstra Business Woman of the Year awards. This adds to her earlier award of the 2009 NSW Telstra Business Woman of the Year.

In further company news, Luxottica continues to expand in the U.S. after signing an agreement to open additional Sunglass Hut stores in about 430 Macy’s department stores, bringing the total number of in-store Sunglass Hut locations to 670.

Luxottica Group has also announced a strategic, multiyear e-commerce alliance with drugstore.com, a leading online retailer of health, beauty, vision, and pharmacy products. This agreement will provide online access to contact lenses in the North American market.

According to Valerio Giacobbi, Luxottica Executive Vice President, Business Bevelopment: “This agreement is a key step in Luxottica’s goal to increase consumers’ awareness of contact lenses as an important vision care option. Together with annual eye exams and high-quality eyewear and sunglasses, contact lenses are an excellent alternative for total eye health in a way that suits consumers’ differing lifestyles and needs.”

As of 1 October last year, Luxottica operated 2,939 optical stores across North America, including LensCrafters and Pearle Vision. The new contact lens e-commerce services are expected to launch in mid-2010.
