One of the surf world’s biggest wetsuit brands is trying to break into eyewear. O’Neill has been producing wetsuits for nearly 60 years and the new sunglass collection will be designed by Orange 21 from the U.S., which produces premium products for the action sports and youth lifestyle markets.
“Protecting a life in the water is not just about staying warm and fluid in all conditions, it’s about preserving the senses you need to do it all over again tomorrow,” O’Neill said in a statement.
“Our new line of eye wear does just that; it protects and preserves your vision from the harmful rays of the sun.”
“Using the best materials on earth to produce O’Neill eyewear, we’ve held up a long tradition of looking good and working better than the rest. We’ve spared no expense to protect the only pair of eyes you’re gonna get.”
The company says the sunglasses should be available at surf shops in Australia by mid 2010.
Surf brands Quiksilver and Rip Curl both attempted to break into the eyewear market, albeit with limited success. Hopefully wetsuit king O’Neill will have better luck with its sunnies.
