The inaugural North Queensland Vision kicked off in Cairns on Friday 11 June at the luxurious Shangri-La Resort. The Congress was opened by OAA Qld/NT Executive Director Greg Johnson.
A positive sign for the future of the Congress, of the 120 delegates who attended, over half jetted in from interstate and even New Zealand, suggesting that a great educational program and the attraction of a warm tropical climate was too hard to resist. North Queensland Visions first education session was very topical: a comprehensive “Resuscitation Techniques in an Optometry Practice’ course. As of 1 July, optometrists are required to undertake compulsory CPR training every three years. Delegates practiced on their mannequins and defibrillators and were awarded a ‘certificate of attainment’ after completion of the three hour course.
The afternoon’s educational line up included ‘Low Vision Practice: The Impact of Research’, presented by adjunct professor Jan Lovie-Kitchin and ‘Elevating Your Skills in Contact Lens Fitting Through Corneal Topography’, presented by the Contact Lens Society of Australia State President Mr. David Stephenson.
