Organisers of Hong Kong Optical Fair 2010 say visitors to this year’s exposition, to be held from 3 to 5 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will be amazed by the depth of displays and exhibitions and the extraordinary sourcing opportunities.
“The HKTDC Hong Kong Optical Fair 2010 is the perfect platform for not only sourcing the latest products, but also gathering information on market intelligence, eyewear trends and technological advancements,” say the organisers.
The suppliers come from all corners of the globe, and their products appeal to all market sectors, from mass market to exclusive designer collections with everything in between, and include frames, prescription spectacles, sunglasses, safety goggles and contact lenses as well as components, accessories and optometric equipment.
Last year, 535 exhibitors from 23 countries displayed their wares over the 25,000sqm exhibitor space with 12,000 delegates from 96 countries attending the Fair.
Hong Kong is an appropriate place to host a fair of this importance. It has the third largest optical industry in the world and in 2009, exports of spectacles, lenses and frames were valued at USD$1.515billion.
Figures for the first quarter of 2010 show an increase of 4.4 per cent over the same period in 2009 – but more importantly among the markets showing big increases are the emerging economies of Chinese mainland (20.1 per cent), India (37 per cent), Turkey (107.5 per cent), South Africa (36.1 per cent) and Russia (14.6 per cent), with ASEAN countries collectively showing an 18.7 per cent increase.
The highlight of the 2010 Fair is the Brand Name Gallery, which focuses the latest international eyewear brands.

Another popular element of the Optical Fair is the Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition. This year is the 12th edition of this event, which promotes and celebrates the talents of young, local designers.
The show also acts as an information exchange as it incorporates the 8th Hong Kong Optometric Conference, a high-profile industry event that features presentations on state-of-the-art developments from international speakers who are experts in their fields.
“Spectacle frames and sunglasses are increasingly being seen as fashion accessories, so it is essential that buyers are knowledgeable about the latest trends regarding shapes, colours and materials. The Trend Seminar is the hottest ticket in town, and is addressed by specialist forecasters,” say the organisers.
