Johnson and Johnson Vision Care (JJVC) will host a series of seminars across Australia and New Zealand to help optometrists maximise patient outcomes when recommending and fitting contact lenses.
The seminars, which will be held from 5 to 26 October, will focus on practical tips to enhance the patient experience.
In the past few years, JJVC has conducted extensive research into contact lens wearers that shows there are close to one million spectacle wearers who would be happy to try contact lenses if they were suggested as a vision correction option. With 2,500 optometry practices across Australia, that’s about 400 potential buyers per practice – the conversation simply needs to be started!
Independent research conducted in 2008 highlighted the following facts about contact lens wearers:
- 90 per cent have specs as well as contact lenses
- They are three times more likely to purchase sunglasses than spectacle only wearers, thus protecting their eyes from harmful UV rays
- They visit their optometrist 2.5 times more often than spec only wearers, resulting in better maintenance of eye health.
