Global eyewear giant Luxottica has won a major Australian corporate social responsibility award for the work of the organisation’s not-for-profit arm, the OneSight Foundation.
The work of the OneSight Foundation, which provides eye care support and services to thousands of underprivileged people with refractive error, was honoured with the Australian Human Resource Institute’s (AHRI’s) Ian Kiernan Award for Corporate Social Responsibility in November.
More than 20 OneSight clinics, which incorporate vision screening and testing by volunteer optometrists and dispensers, were held across Australia and New Zealand as well as in South Africa and China in 2010.
The project helped more than 37,000 people. More than AUD$200,000 was raised by Luxottica employees and more than 50,000 pairs of glasses were donated by customers to be recycled and used in overseas clinics.
The AHRI said it was “bowled over by what is considered a tremendous program… with a demonstrated impact for thousands of Australians.

This year the OneSight Foundation in Australia is planning 25 Australian clinics as well as three overseas clinics, in China and South Africa.
