An exciting blend of old and new will be evident at this year’s ODMA, as three emerging local designers present collections crafted from sustainable timbers and recycled materials.
Fritz Frames was established in July 2010 by business partners Friedrich ‘Fritz’ Schwarz and Ivo den Uijl. With a passion for wood, water sports, style and craftsmanship, they’ve come up with a funky collection of eyewear that’s made from timber and fibreglass. Light, strong and flexible, the hand sanded frames are waterproof and UV resistant.
Another exciting newcomer is Queensland based Holloway Eyewear. This beautiful range of eco-eyewear (pictured above) is designed and manufactured in house from recycled and natural Australian and Pacific timbers.
“We simply assist and utilise nature’s genius,” explains Holloway co-founder Raffaele Persichetti. “As a manufacturer we have a passion for building a relationship with Mother Nature and participate in several forest regeneration plans, replenishing what we affect.”

Vision Inc is another new label to hit the market. Created exclusively for independent optometrists, the collection has a purely Australian feel. “It is about reuse of local materials, sourced from the east coast – wood, metals and gemstones,” said Chris Savage the brand’s founder, who learned his craft from Jono Hennessey.
ODMA 2011 will take place at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour 5 to 7 August 2011. For information, visit www.odma.com.au
