With ODMA just around the corner, we took a look at what the contact lens and solutions companies are showcasing this year.
The new ODMA ‘Bootcamp’ education program will offer cutting edge sessions structured to inform eye care professionals about aspects of eye care including prescription contact lenses.
The Contact Lens Education Forum, presented by Abbott Medical Optics, Bausch & Lomb, CIBA Vision, CooperVision and Johnson & Johnson Vision Care will be headlined by none other than Shelly Bonsal, president of the British Contact Lens Association. The Contact Lens Education Forum sessions are free to ODMA delegates.
Representatives from each of the companies will be available to meet delegates at the exclusive contact lens exhibitors’ lounge during the trade show, however appointments are essential. Talk to your contact lens account specialist to make a time to see them at ODMA.
With the Fair now just around the corner, we took a look at some of the more innovative lenses and lens solutions
1 Day Acuvue Moist
Johnson & Johnson Vision Care
Johnson & Johnson Vision Care has launched the expanded 1 Day Acuvue Moist and 1 Day Acuvue moist for astigmatism – allowing optometrists to fit more new contact lens wearers in daily disposable contact lenses.
1 Day Acuvue Moist and 1 Day Acuvue moist for astigmatism offer all day comfort to patients thanks to Lacreon technology which embeds the moisturising agent (PVP) into the lens matrix. Additionally,
1 Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism with Accelerated Stabilisation Design delivers crisp and stable vision regardless of your patients’ activities.
RevitaLens OcuTec Multi-Purpose Disinfecting Solution (MPDS)
Abbott Medical Optics
Abbott Medical Optics says its new RevitaLens OcuTec Multi-Purpose Disinfecting Solution (MPDS) conditions lenses and increases ocular comfort while delivering outstanding disinfection and sustained microbial efficacy. Wearers of Silicone Hydrogel (SiHy) and soft contact lenses can use the dual disinfection system which is available in several sized bottles as well as a starter kit.
Biofinity lenses have very high oxygen transmission and a high water content, making them softer and more comfortable while reducing mechanical physiological complications. The technology behind the Biofinity Toric comfilcon is Acquaform, a material that establishes hydrogen bonds with water molecules to hold water within the lens. Unique silicone monomers transmit oxygen very efficiently through the lens. Approved for up to 29 nights of extended wear, Biofinity Toric comes in a large and easy to remember power range.
PureVision 2 HD
Bausch & Lomb says its new PureVision 2 HD monthly contact lens is one of the thinnest contact lenses on the market today and is designed to provide clear, sharp vision, especially in low light conditions.
High Definition Optics reduce spherical aberration across the entire power range and a thin lens edge design minimises lens lid interaction. The lenses are packaged in ComfortMoist polaximine solution, a moisturising surfactant that adds to comfort upon insertion.
Air Optix Aqua Multifocal Contact Lenses
Ciba Vision says its Air Optix Aqua Multifocal contact lenses provide a smooth transition as the eyes move naturally from one focal distance to another – near, intermediate and far. These lenses, which provide crisp, clear vision for reading, driving or working on a computer, are designed with TriComfort technology to provide breathability and moisture retention, while resisting
deposit build up.
Opti-Free EverMoist MPDS
Alcon claims its Opti-Free EverMoist Multi-Purpose Disinfecting Solution (MPDS) contains HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix, a propriety wetting system that provides 16 hours of moisture to keep contact lens wearers comfortable. Additionally they say, it removes lipids and protein daily for clear vision and is an effective yet gentle formula that kills germs.
