The University of Melbourne’s Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences has taken delivery of the gift of a tonometer from Finland’s ICare, distributed by Designs for Vision locally.
Designs for Vision Optometry Sales Manager Cameron Loveless presented the gift to the Department’s Acting Head, Dr. Alex Gentle.
The tonometer is designed to provide an easy, safe and painless method of measuring intraocular pressure in a portable package, without the need for topical anaesthetic.
The ICare tonometer is now the preferred choice for IOP measurement in children at various children’s eye departments around Australia. The tonometer resides in the specialty paediatric testing rooms, at the recently extended University of Melbourne Eye Clinic.
Mr. Loveless said that the manufacturer is hoping to learn from the use of the tonometer by the University, as well as providing valuable experience for optometry students.
ICare Finland and Designs for Vision also presented the ICare Tonometer to Flinders University in South Australia, accepted by Professor Konrad Pesudovs, and to Professor Fiona Stapleton for the University of New South Wales.
