Marc Jacobs Goes Sustainable

Marc Jacobs has decided not to be outdone by an increasing number of eyewear designers jumping on the sustainability band-wagon.

Jacobs has launched a pair of sunglasses that aims to raise awareness for The Nature Conservancy. The Nature Conservancy is an organisation that works on ecological issues all around the world.

The frame of these vintage-inspired sunnies is chocolate colour, while the temples have a leaf textured design. The sunglasses are manufactured from a material derived from castor oil seeds and will
come in a case made of repurposed leather.

The sunglasses will be released as part of The Nature Conservancy’s ‘Plant A Seed – Grow Your Tree And Save The Forest’ campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to inform and teach people of the erosion taking place in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. The campaign is focused on restoring the Atlantic Forest in Brazil – one of the world’s most endangered tropical forests. Only about 12 per cent of its original area still exists, and only about 7 per cent has been properly conserved.
