Specsavers will host its first clinical conference in Australia on 18 May at the Sofitel Hotel in Melbourne.
The event, which will bring together up to two hundred of the franchise’s optometrists from Australia and New Zealand, will take place the day before the Southern Regional Congress (SRC) begins. “Our optoms will attend our conference and stay on to attend SRC as well,” said Peter Larsen, Managing Director at Specsavers.
The conference was initiated as a result of success Specsavers has experienced in the United Kingdom. There, the Group’s 2011 annual Professional Advancement Committee Conference attracted 1,300 eye care professionals from within and outside Specsavers. While some may see the conference as an opportunity to promote the Specsavers model to prospective franchise owners, Mr. Larsen says that’s definitely not the case. “This is not about Specsavers, it’s about the consulting room and enhancing pinnacle understanding and competencies,” he said.
Mr. Larsen said the Melbourne Conference will provide attendees with clinical insights from high profile ophthalmologists including Prof. Alex Harper and Prof. Jonathon Crowston. Each presentation will have learning insights and outcomes attached. “We believe you can never have enough insight and this is an opportunity for us to give our optometrists access to the best and brightest clinical minds.”
