As the first year of Deakin University’s optometry program draws to a close, the Optometry School, in the regional Victorian city of Geelong, has reported that it is continuing to consolidate its academic and equipment resources.
In an email update, Foundation Director and Chair in Optometry, Professor Harrison Weisinger said the academic team was “rapidly piecing together the pre-clinical and clinical skills curriculum, which features problem-based and team-based learning”.
“We are also awaiting the arrival of some AUD$1million of clinical equipment to fit out our new home, the REACH building, which we will occupy from November… anticipate our Clinical Placement Handbook to be ready soon, which we expect will allow us to get on with attracting clinical placement partners.”
Prof. Weisinger said the School had also secured approximately AUD$400,000 to build student accommodation in Warrnambool.
