Hoya has re-branded as ‘the freeform company’ and re-launched its laboratory in Sydney’s inner city suburb of Alexandria which has now been fitted with a AUD$1m freeform machine.
To mark the occasion, the company invited 140 optometrists from all regions of Australia and New Zealand to tour the laboratory where they were introduced to all key managers in the production line, from freeform to tinting, coating, fitting and dispatch.
Tony Schultz, National Sales Manager for Hoya said the event was a great success
The re-launched lab is part of the company’s global strategic direction to open several new lens laboratories around the world. The aim is to guard against the risks of further devastating events such as the
floods that destroyed the company’s lab in Thailand in 2011.
Following the flood it took six months to rebuild the laboratory that employed 6,000 people. All equipment had to be removed and replaced, and production was halted, causing significant distribution problems for the company worldwide and particularly in Australia and New Zealand.
Celebratory Dinner
After a day of tours, guests, representatives from Hoya and media were invited to a celebratory dinner at Doulton House in Pyrmont. Keynote speaker and AFL legend Kevin Sheedy addressed attendees, encouraging them to think outside the box to search out the next big idea. He said the profession of optometry should be fun – after all, “it’s all about giving the gift of sight”.
Tony Schultz, National Sales Manager for Hoya said the event was a great success. “We successfully celebrated the launch of Hoya – the FreeForm Company last week with customer tours of the newly upgraded Sydney laboratory and a dinner – everyone had a great time and we’re looking forward to some exciting times ahead.”
