Sunglass Hut – Cool and Sexy – Like Jagger

Georgia May Jagger, the daughter of rock icon Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, arrived at the Sunglass Hut Floating Pop-Up Store, docked at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair on Sydney Harbour, in true rock star style, in a $700,000 Vintage Pegiva Speed Boat to an explosion of camera flashes.

Mivision received an invitation to attend and report on this exclusive event.

Chris Beer, Luxottica Asia Pacific CEO, told mivision at the event that “Sunglass Hut has become the narrator of sunglass fashion, and has taken a leadership role globally because we have the guts to do something that’s different and innovative”.

He said, an example of this was the floating store concept which “did really well last year”. At it’s core Mr. Beer said the store was “cool and sexy”.

“This year, we’ve made it bigger, twice as big actually so we can accommodate more people. The Sunglass Hut Floating store concept has been so successful that we are now exporting the concept around the world”.

Mr. Beer reiterated his often stated point about optical retailing that “We (OPSM) don’t want to win a race to the bottom… We want to innovate and make people emotional about our brands and the brand experience.”

Fabio D’Angelantorio the Global President for Sunglass Hut and the Chief Marketing Manager for Luxottica flew in from Rome to attend the gala event.

Mr. D’Angelantorio said Georgia May Jagger, as the Global Ambassador of Sunglass hut internationally is the definition of the brand – “Cool and Sexy”.

“Who better to represent that than Georgia May,” he said. “She has a lot of charisma, style and a fashion angle. She is instant attention getting.”

The unique Sunglass Hut Floating Pop-Up Store, which provides 360-water views of Sydney Harbour, will be offering customers access to the latest collections from Ray-Ban, Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Prada, Miu Miu, Coach and many more for four days before the new collections hit the rest of stores in February 2013.

The Sunglass Hut floating store will be open from 15 to 18 November at its mooring in Darling Harbour, Sydney.
