Zoobug Kids’ Specs: As Cute as a Bug’s Ear

The UK based specialty kids’ eyewear company, Zoobug has launched a global website to sell both to trade and direct to the public.

Zoobug, which designs and manufactures eyewear for children up to the age of 12 years, was established by ophthalmologist Dr. Julie Diem Le in 2006. That’s when she found herself looking for sunglasses for her one-year-old niece – with little success. Frustrated, she made it her mission to produce great quality sunglasses and glasses, and raise awareness of children’s eye health. She did. Her frames received
Silmo Awards in 2008 and 2009. And in 2012, Zoobug became the Official Licensee for London Olympic Sunglasses for Kids.

Dr. Diem Le says her Zoobug frames are designed specifically for kids (rather than being scaled down from adult styles) and come with features like polarised lenses, special fits for Asian noses and detachable headbands for babies. Sunglasses are hand made, absorb 100 per cent UVA and UBA rays and comply with latest European standards.

Zoobug is primarily sold by optometry practices but the company also works with eye hospitals that dispense its collections in the UK, and fashion retailers.

The company sells direct to customers via its website but says, “we provide eye care professionals with a healthy margin for them to be competitive. We also give free delivery, 18 months warranty on all our frames and free replacement parts. Swaps and exchanges are also made easy. Ordering direct from us takes seven days delivery,” said Dr. Diem Le.
