‘Grown’, the Gold Coast based sustainable wood and bamboo eyewear brand launched last year, continues to grow from strength to strength. Recently the company opened new warehousing facilities in North America and Canada to better serve its burgeoning international markets.
Available for online purchase from growndesigns.com, and through selected retailers, Grown comes in seven styles, made from a range of sustainable wood, bamboo and UV 400 (100 per cent UVA/UVB) polarised lenses in different colours.
“Our wood and bamboo is naturally rested and dried for a minimum of six months,” said Jeff Phillips, one of Grown’s founders. “Once ready, the material is handcrafted through rough cutting, precision shaping and polishing to bring the wood and bamboo to its most vibrant form. After it all, we apply natural oils and waxes to provide the eyewear with long lasting protection from the elements.” He said due to the unique characteristics of both wood and bamboo, every pair is completely unique.
Grown Eyewear isn’t just about selling sunnies. Since its inception, every frame sale has fully funded either sight-restoring surgery for one individual or diagnostic eye examinations for 12 children. Those eye surgeries and diagnostic eye examinations are performed by the Fred Hollows Foundation or Seva Canada Society.
