Colab Hits the Streets of America

The fame and funky styling of Colab eyewear is about to hit the streets of North America, following an agreement between the unique Australian eyewear designer and US distributor Spectacle Eyeworks.

The sunglass brand was born through a collaboration of street artists, illustrators and musicians. Every season a new group of creators is asked to design frames – in the past they’ve included Deanne Cheuk, Anthony Lister, Geoff McFetridge, Stefan Marx, The Presets, and Rockin’ Jellybean, to name just a few. Production of each piece is limited in quantity to 1,000 worldwide.

Spectacle Eyeworks Operations Director, Mehran Baghaie said what he loves about the collection is that each frame is a work of art. “I fell in love with this collection because I think glasses and sunglasses are works of art and it was fascinating for me to see what true artists who have not been influenced by optical industry design can create,” he said.

One of the COLAB artists Spectacle Eyeworks will represent is Anthony Lister, an Australian-born painter who now resides in Brooklyn. His work takes the form of cartoons and superheroes from the media and pop culture, and can be seen on both the street and gallery walls in London, NYC and down under. Pictured here is Lister’s favourite frame, in Lennon style, with flip top sun lenses.
