Glaucoma Australia – in conjunction with mivision – has launched the ‘B-I-G: Beat Invisible Glaucoma’ Photo Competition to celebrate World Glaucoma Week 2014.
Now in its second year, the competition is designed to act as a reminder about the importance of a regular optic nerve check as the best protection against progressive sight loss caused by glaucoma.
Regular optic nerve checks are particularly important for people with a history of glaucoma in their family. The direct hereditary nature of glaucoma means there’s an increased risk – up to 10-fold – of someone developing glaucoma if a family member has the disease.
To enter, take a photograph that either includes the word BIG, or one that creatively interprets ‘Beat Invisible Glaucoma’ in some way. There are junior and senior divisions and various categories. The competition runs from Monday 3 February to Friday 11 April.
Enter online at www.glaucoma.org.au/BIGphoto.htm. Photos submitted to the B-I-G competition should include a title, and a short explanation (25 words or less) of how the image depicts the theme of ‘Beat Invisible Glaucoma’.
Photos will be judged on their merits by a panel that includes Glaucoma Australia President and Ophthalmologist Professor Ivan Goldberg AM, mivision Editor, Mark Cushway and internationally acclaimed artist Ken Done.
