New Glaucoma Drug for PBS A glaucoma drop marketed by Allergan has been approved for listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
The drug, Bimatoprost, available under the brand name Lumigan, is a prostaglandin analog used topically to control the progression of glaucoma and in the management of ocular hypertension. It works to reduce intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous fluid from the eyes.
Announcing the listing, which took effect on 1 March, Health Minister Peter Dutton said the PBS subsidies would make the medicine more affordable for Australians who need it.
