Rolf’s Marlin 06 frame has won Gold at the United State’s IDSA IDEA 2014 (Industrial Designers Society of America International Design Excellence Awards).
In awarding the frame, IDSA, which positions itself as ‘the voice of the industrial design profession’ acknowledged its design and craftsmanship. Tortsen Fritze, a member of the judging panel, wrote, “we were positively impressed with the outstanding level of execution and the mechanical innovation of this all wood lightweight frame, its sleek silhouette and careful detailing provide a price worthy example of industrial design, with craft qualities”.
More than 2,000 designs were entered into IDEA, from which 27 gold, 58 silver and 91 bronze awards were made. The Marlin 06 was awarded gold in the Personal Accessories category.
Designed by Roland Wolf, Marija Iljazovic, Christian Wolf and Martin Iljazovic, the Marlin 06 was launched in January 2014 in bog oak and maple.
Rolf Spectacles are made by hand using wood, stone and horn. New to the brand is an innovative hinge, which uses no screws; instead, a nylon filament fits through drilled holes. An integrated mechanism prevents the hinge from self-closing and holds it in a stable position, whether open or closed.
