Silhouette celebrated its 50th anniversary at a lavish event at the Linz Musical Theatre on Wednesday, 24 August.
More than 500 people from over 150 countries where Silhouette is distributed attended the black tie event. Guests of honour were Anneliese Schmied, wife and co-founder with the late Arnold Schmied Sr of Silhouette International, and Dora Demel, the designer behind, the famous 1974 Futura worn by Elton John. This model was reinterpreted in a limited edition series called Futura 50th anniversary by Silhouette’s other famous designer, Gerhard Fuchs, the creator of the rimless and hingeless Titan Minimal Art.
The surprise of the evening was the presentation and performance (by a classical orchestra of 50 members) of a symphony especially created for Silhouette by the Anton Bruckner University of Music. The wonderful piece, themed on lightness and the history of the company was completed by a group of classical dancers.
