Macular Disease Foundation Australia has called for entries into the fifth annual mEYE World Photographic Competition, which this year is themed “See My World”.
Once again the competition will be judged by a panel that includes media identity and Patron of the Macular Disease Foundation Australia Ita Buttrose AO OBE, internationally recognised photographer Rex Dupain and one of Australia’s longest serving news photographers, Alan Pryke.
The competition provides an opportunity for enthusiasts and budding photographers to showcase their talent while raising awareness of macular disease and supporting the Foundation in its pursuit to save sight.
Last year, Dr. Kerry Boytell, of Mosman NSW, took out both the Healthcare Professional category and Grand Finalist prize with an awe-inspiring photo of a snow leopard in the wild.
“When I saw this magnificent snow leopard appearing on a ledge it was a sight to behold,” said Dr. Boytell. “Our sight is precious, and being able to see nature in its glory is indeed wonderful.”
“We have had some amazing entries from optometrists and their patients over the past five years. There is a great synergy between the visual arts, the world of photography, and the work of optometry in saving sight so that we can all see our world,” said Julie Heraghty, Chief Executive Officer of Macular Disease Foundation Australia.

In 2015 the competition runs from 14 July to 8 September.
Winners will be announced on 12 November 2015.
The four categories for the competition are:
1. Open – general public
2. Macular disease community
3. Healthcare professional
4. Junior – under 18 years.
