Fun, Laughter and Learning

When you’re dedicating a weekend to education, it’s good to know there will also be some fun.

SA Blue Sky Congress is back again in all its quintessential glory from 20–21 November 2015. To celebrate, there will be music, costumes, comedy and magic intertwined with practical and inspiring education for both optometrists and optical dispensers (qualified or not)! If you are unfortunate enough never to have been to Optometry SA’s fantastic optometry and optical dispensing conference before, you might be wondering what we are celebrating – have we been away and come back? Not at all: SA Blue Sky Congress has been going strong since 2006 and we celebrate every year with our many loyal delegates and trade exhibitors that have made it all possible.

SA Blue Sky Congress emerged from a small, locally-based state conference. Instinctively we knew we wanted to be different: an education event that not only provided top class speakers but also ensured that our delegates learned as much as possible from the expertise available and looked forward to coming back. We succeeded by introducing a range of best-practice adult-learning techniques that complimented our great line up of speakers. Some ideas didn’t quite hit the spot; others had delegates rolling in the aisles. (Who could forget Peter ‘Ozzie’ Oswald as the host of our very own ‘Optometric Wheel of Fortune’?).

At SA Blue Sky Congress we introduced exercise breaks (to freshen the brain), healthy snacks (to keep you alert), humour (to ensure you remember more and for longer), a free crèche (to give the parents amongst you peace of mind) and a unique theme every year. So thank you to all of our past delegates and trade exhibitors for embracing our antics and innovations,
for joining in with gusto and for taking
the time to tell us what you think. Every year we incorporate your ideas into subsequent events. SA Blue Sky Congress has grown into something that we (and many of you) believe is something well worth shutting up shop for (to ensure that none of your team misses out).

SA Blue Sky Congress… definitely no B.S.

In preparing for this year we looked back at our Australian speakers over the past nine years and chased down those you ranked consistently highly to present again on a topic they are passionate about. We have packed in even more education to provide you with the opportunity to attain 40 optometry CPD points including: Dr. Nate Lighthizer, A/Prof. Jolly Gilhotra, A/Prof. Celia Chen, A/Prof. Mark Roth, Michael Yapp, Dr. Neil Shuey, Dr. Dinesh Selva and Triple J’s Nax Campanella.

Our 2015 Optical Dispensing stream boasts more pithy, objective, practical and ADOA-accredited advice from Dr. David Wilson, Steve Daras, Grant Hannaford, The Nutcracker Suite (Gary Edwards and David Welch), Dr. Neil Shuey and David Hautop in the form of lectures and workshops.

Finally, to a more serious issue – some have suggested the acronym for SA Blue Sky Congress could be B.S. But take our and our loyal delegates’ word for it: SA Blue Sky Congress – entertaining and informative, but definitely no B.
