Sydney’s only dedicated private hospital for specialist ear, throat and nose (ENT) and eye surgical procedures and treatment has opened in Chatswood on Sydney’s North Shore. The hospital is attended by 35 ophthalmologists and 20 ENT surgeons and specialists.
The new hospital, adjoining the Quest Hotel, has six operating theatres and a laser procedure room, among other state-of-the-art facilities, to cater for both day surgery and other procedures which may require patients staying overnight. According to Mark Resnik, Managing Director of the hospital operator PresMed Australia (PMA). the hospital will bring together medical specialists who have been operating in separate facilities for the past 20 years.
The hospital was designed to replace PMA’s two previous medical specialist facilities in Chatswood – the Ophthalmic Surgery Centre (OSC) and the ENT & Facial Day Surgery Centre (SENT), which is the only dedicated free-standing ENT day surgery in Sydney.
“Eye and ENT surgery is characterised by rapid development in technologies which continuously improve patient outcomes,” said Roger Cronin, Chief Operating Officer of PMA. He said an example of new technology being introduced to the hospital is Femtocataract Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery. The laser, guided by an advanced imaging system can create precise and reproducible incisions, automating steps of cataract surgery that have traditionally been done manually.
PMA also has ophthalmic day hospitals in Sydney at Epping Surgery Centre and at Erina at Central Coast Day Hospital.
