In a surprise move, ODMA has announced it will host an entirely new boutique show which will be held at Peninsula, Docklands in Melbourne from 21 – 22 May this year.
According to ODMA CEO Finola Carey, ‘O Show’ is a non-CPD event that will showcase the latest industry technology providing an opportunity for optometrists, optical dispensers and ophthalmologists to “come shopping” without the distraction of formalised education sessions. Ms Carey said the emphasis will be on short, sharp hands-on demonstrations provided by exhibitors, and the opportunity to compare and contrast new products and equipment.
Ms. Carey said ODMA had been “planning an event of this type in the alternate year to the ODMA Show for some years” and now, with changes underway in the industry, it was “strategically the right time”.
She said O Show would be a “great resource for the industry” and was timed to enable products showcased at Mido to be brought to the Australian industry’s attention.

Ms. Carey said support for O Show had already been overwhelming and she expected to have to turn some potential exhibitors away because space at Peninsular, normally used as a function centre, is limited. This means only about 30 companies will be able to exhibit and most booths will be restricted in size.
“Already we have seven equipment suppliers (all ODMA members) who have confirmed spaces as well as some frame companies – Melbourne frame companies are particularly interested in the opportunity to showcase their products locally.”
Ms Carey promised that O Show would provide a new way for the optical industry to do business within a funky, party atmosphere. She said O-Show will support new scholarships for the industry as well as providing funding support for Optometry Giving Sight.
O Show will be managed by International Exhibition & Conference Group Pty Ltd, a company with a background in industry events including Fashion Exposed.
