Rodenstock Evolves Business Model for Independents

Rodenstock Australia has partnered with two local companies; Matrix Eyewear and Hastings Optical, as part of a plan to evolve the business to better meet the needs of independent practices.

“At Rodenstock Australia, our core business is the independent market; their successes are our successes, which is why we are turning to them instead of away from them,” said Tim McCann, Rodenstock Australia General Manager. “This requires an adaptation of our business model in order to deliver the best outcomes for practices. In Matrix Eyewear and Hastings Optical Supplies we have found strong partners that will contribute to practice success.”

Rodenstock Australia and Australian frame manufacturer and distributor Matrix Eyewear have partnered to grow the Porsche Design Eyewear brand in the Australian market. Licensed to Rodenstock, the premium frame brand will be distributed by Matrix Eyewear from May 2016.

“Distributing Porsche Design Eyewear is a unique opportunity to expand our current frame range, therefore we have embraced our new partnership with Rodenstock,” said Jim Kareh, Matrix Eyewear Managing Director. “The technical luxury of Porsche Design Eyewear with the latest in design technology, best handwork and luxury appeals to a broad range of consumers and is an ideal brand for many practices to fulfil the needs of their patients.”

Hastings Optical Supplies was established in 1995 as a full service lab providing high quality lenses to independent practices throughout Australia. Hastings Optical Supplies will initially supply hard coated single vision and bifocal lenses to ensure fast local turnaround for Rodenstock Australia customers.

“Following an upgrade to our production system we are pleased to be able to expand our business and work closely with Rodenstock,” said Max Webb, Hastings Optical Supplies’ Managing Director. “We confidently completed a six month audit period with Rodenstock to demonstrate our high quality standards. We are now thrilled to commence our partnership with Rodenstock Australia.”

Practices will continue to order lenses through current Rodenstock ordering systems, while Porsche Design Eyewear frames will be ordered through Matrix Eyewear. Rodenstock will maintain other frame brands in its portfolio such as rocco by Rodenstock and Rodenstock frames, along with licensed brands including Jil Sander, Mercedes-Benz Style and Bogner.

Multiple ODMA Sales Rep of the Year winner Roslyn Boland has been promoted to Key Account Manager to drive the Rodenstock frame portfolio. In the new role, Ms. Boland will assist practices to differentiate themselves and enhance practice profitability.
