Spectrum Optical has launched customisable training solutions for optical dispensers, assistants and optical receptionists Australia-wide. Topics range from facial measurements for PDs and heights for single vision to progressives, frame selection and adjustments, selling, understanding the spectrum of lenses, eye disorders and interpreting prescriptions.
The short courses have been developed by Leigh Robinson, who has taught optical dispensing for eight years, and operated his own dispensing practice for 11 years.
While the 18-month Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing is available in several states, Mr. Robinson believes there has been a significant void for training of optical assistants and other practice staff. “Staff are a practice’s greatest asset. Practice owners that embrace staff professional development and foster staff relationships will see benefits to the practice and their patients,” he said.
