The President of Silmo exhibition, Philippe Lafont, passed away suddenly on 6 March. He was 70 years old.
Since 2012, Mr. Lafont devoted himself to developing the exhibition, seeking to make Silmo a flagship forum for all industry stakeholders. Continuing the work begun by Guy Charlot, his commitment saw Silmo become a valuable tool for optometrists and helped to raise the profile of the French optics sector. Under his leadership, Silmo pursued its international development. Silmo Istanbul launched in December 2015 and the first Silmo Sydney was staged at the International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour from 9–11 March.
In a statement, Silmo organisers said, “His death is a huge loss for all who were fortunate enough to work with him. Silmo’s administrators and teams extend their deepest sympathy to his family and friends.”
Silmo Paris will take place from 6 –9 October 2017.
