Global Call for Children’s Vision

Eye care professionals are asked to support a campaign run by Our Children’s Vision, which aims to ensure effective, inclusive, sustainable eye health initiatives for children and adolescents become a priority for governments around the world.

Founded by Brien Holden Vision Institute and Essilor, Our Children’s Vision set an initial target to provide eye care services to 50 million children by 2020. Since launching in April 2016 the campaign has reached 10 million children.

Optometry Giving Sight is one of more than 60 global organisations supporting the campaign.

“To learn at school, every child needs to be able to see their texts and lessons on the board or screen,” said Clive Miller CEO, Optometry Giving Sight. “To develop relationships with their peers, they need to be able to see faces and play safely. To take in the world around them – they use their eyes.”

Optometry Giving Sight is committed to providing funds to enable children all over the world to do just this

He said, “Optometry Giving Sight is committed to providing funds to enable children all over the world to do just this”.

To get involved optometrists can make a small donation for every pair of frames sold over the next two months and invite patients to donate AU$5 by texting ‘EYES’ to (AUS) 0437 371 371. Companies and practices can make a company donation, and staff can make a $5 text based donation.

To participate, order promotional and social media materials, or donate, visit givingsight.org, pull down the giving tab and select ‘Our Children’s Vision Register.’
