Vision Australia Expands Services in Illawarra

Vision Australia has expanded its Illawarra team with the appointment of an Occupational Therapist and an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.

Based in Wollongong, Vision Australia’s Illawarra team provides services to clients across a region that stretches from Helensburgh to Milton and also takes in the Southern Highlands.

Jodie Cox, Vision Australia Illawarra Regional Manager, said the not-for-profit organisation is excited by the opportunity to increase its service offering in the region.

“The combination of the National Disability Insurance Scheme being live in the area and the impacts of an ageing population mean we’re experiencing increased demand for our services, so it’s pleasing we can increase our staffing to meet that demand,” said Ms. Cox.

Services Complement Work of Eye Care Professionals

People with vision loss are three times more likely to suffer depression, and twice as likely to experience a decrease in their social independence. The allied health team at Vision Australia complements the work of eye care professionals. Its vision loss experts help people use their remaining vision to navigate their environment safely, prevent falls and get back to social activities.

Vision Australia’s NDIS and My Aged Care funding experts support people to to access funding from these schemes and get the most out of their packages.
