Silmo Sydney Focuses on Future with Optometry Australia

Silmo Sydney will be supported by a strategic partnership with Optometry Australia this year.

Themed ‘The Future’, the exhibition will feature a full scale, interactive practice of the future, as well as the latest digital optometry equipment, which supports Optometry Australia’s goal to gain deeper insights into emerging trends that may impact and shape the local optometric sector.

Lyn Brodie, Optometry Australia Chief Executive Officer said the practice of the future concept would complement Optometry Australia’s Optometry 2040 project which is designed to facilitate collaboration within the profession to help identify, test and consider initiatives that will create a sustainable and successful eye care sector for the next 20 years and beyond.

Optometry Australia will also hold workshop sessions during the show, to gather feedback for the development of its Optometry 2040 white paper on the future outlook of the industry.

All That’s New

Gary Fitz-Roy from the organising company Expertise Events said the most important thing visitors look for at trade shows and exhibitions is new products and services. “Silmo Sydney is all about that. This year’s event will offer something different – excellent product diversity and a glimpse into the future through the dedicated practice of the future stand and workshops.

“It is important to offer exciting and inspirational ideas, as the very nature of a successful trade exhibition is about discovering what’s new. If you learn some things along the way, it’s the total package,” he said.

Mr. Fitz-Roy said Silmo Sydney had concentrated on attracting new exhibitors. “At this year’s event, 38 per cent of our exhibitors are new companies. It’s what the market wants, and in optometry, new on-trend designs and styles help practices differentiate themselves”.

He said Silmo Sydney has attracted a number of high-profile European brands. “Many of our exhibitors have not presented their products at a trade show in a decade while others are new exhibitors who will be showing products for the very first time.

“We know Silmo Sydney stirred the marketplace last year in transitional and challenging times and that’s a good thing because it gets people thinking.”

Happy Hour Fosters Relationships

Mr. Fitz-Roy said, “This year, we have added a happy hour session on Friday to allow informal chats and business matching.

“Another highlight will be a Luna Park Party on Saturday night party, which is an excellent chance for the industry to network and celebrate. People were very pleased with last year’s show and we wanted to keep the momentum, just fun and people.”

Silmo Sydney will be held from 20–22 July at the International Convention Centre in Sydney.
