The International Association of Contact Lens Educators, (IACLE) continues to expand its reach with IACLE members teaching almost 19,600 students at 560 academic institutions worldwide in 2017.
New resources, programs and events were added to IACLE’s platform in 2017 to improve the quality of contact lens education as well as increase the amount of contact lens practitioners worldwide. Additionally, IACLE hosted the IACLE Congress on Contact Lens Education (Hyderabad, India); introduced a new monthly Research Update, and broadcast IACLE in the World, a weekly radio broadcast via Franja Visual Radio in Latin America.
IACLE membership continues to grow, with 782 active Educator, Industry, and Associate members in 71 countries at the close of 2017, almost half (47 per cent) from its global priority countries: China, India, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, Brazil, and Russia.

IACLE membership continues to grow, with 782 active Educator, Industry, and Associate members in 71 countries at the close of 2017, almost half (47 per cent) from its global priority countries: China, India, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, Brazil, and Russia.
As of February 2018, there were 328 active Fellows of IACLE worldwide, 57 per cent of whom were from global priority countries. A further 72 members were eligible to apply for FIACLE status having successfully completing the 2017 Fellowship Exam in November. Eighty-four of the 154 candidates that sat for the 2017 fellowship exam were successful.
In 2017, ICALE’s global contact lens programs were supported by platinum sponsor Alcon, silver sponsors CooperVision and Johnson & Johnson, and donor sponsor Euclid Systems. Bausch + Lomb became a bronze level IACLE sponsor in the last quarter of 2017.
