Eye care providers are encouraged to register to participate in KeepSight – the new national eye screening reminder program for people with diabetes.
Through KeepSight, 1.3 million people with diabetes registered on the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) will be encouraged to have regular eye examinations with an eye health care provider.
Eye care providers who register with KeepSight are able to enrol patients with diabetes into the screening reminder program. Once enrolled, patients will receive regular recall and reminder notices encouraging them to schedule future eye examinations with their preferred eye care provider.
The program is led by Diabetes Australia and Vision 2020 Australia, and funded through a public-private partnership with matching funding from the Australian Government and Specsavers. Bayer is also providing funding towards the initiative. Oculo is the technology provider for KeepSight. The Centre for Eye Research Australia is leading the program evaluation.
KeepSight is urging providers to register with the initiative as soon as possible. This will make it easier for people with diabetes who don’t have a current eye care practitioner to identify a provider via an online search tool. Registration should take less than 60 seconds. An AHPRA number is required.
