While we appreciate that digital evolution is ongoing and rapid, Optometry Australia has committed to ensuring that the transformation that we are taking will serve our members now and well into the future.
The recent launch of our new website is a critical milestone in our digital journey, providing members with a platform that is rich in content and exceptional functionality. The website abounds with features to enable members to quickly find the information they want. The more they visit, the site will start to recognise their individual choices to automatically serve up content to meet their needs. Our advanced search replicates digital best practice, while single sign on has eliminated the need for members to have multiple user names and passwords when moving throughout the site.
For us, the technology platform enables us to track site traffic movement more efficiently, which is giving us a much deeper understanding of what information our members find most relevant. From here we can start to review our member CPD offer, create better content, and potentially review our member services.
Integrated into the new website is the Optometry Australia Institute, which supports our members to plan an individual professional development program, and access quality-assured online educational resources, as well as our suite of live webcasts.
For Optometry Australia, our new website provides us the opportunity to communicate with, learn from, and deliver added value to our members. We see it, and our whole digital footprint, as an on-going project that will continue to evolve in line with member and sector demands as we head towards the 2040 goal to support a sustainable and effective eye care system accessible to all Australians.

O V/SA
July is a historic month for optometry in Australia, with Optometry Victoria and Optometry South Australia joining forces after around 100 years as separate entities. We’ve told members that we’ll deliver more for less, and we’re working extremely hard to make this new organisation, and this promise, come to life. Thank you to all of the members who so resoundingly endorsed this amalgamation when we voted on the matter in October 2018. The new Board of Directors and the secretariat team are looking forward to working with you to take your careers forward.
We’re delighted that Optometry Victoria South Australia’s flagship event, O=MEGA19, is approaching. Held at the newly launched spaces at the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre, we will be hosting the largest ever education and trade event for our industry in Australia. We’re in exciting times.
We’re also pleased with the collaboration we’ve had with the Optical Manufacturers and Distributors Association (ODMA), our partners in O=MEGA19. By combining the best of SRC and ODMA Fair, we feel we’ve done something very positive for the profession of optometry and the wider eye care and eyewear sector. With a conference featuring renowned clinical speakers from Australia and around the world, alongside workshops, non-clinical masterclasses, and a trade fair showcasing over 100 exhibitors in a dedicated exhibition space, O=MEGA19 is the destination event for everyone in our industry.
Preregistrations for O=MEGA19 have been outstanding, and I want to thank our members, and the wider optometric community for embracing this event. Also, thank you to all of the sponsors and exhibitors who have supported us. I encourage everyone attending O=MEGA19 to take note of those suppliers on the tradeshow floor and wherever possible, give them your business. Without their support, the conference simply could not run to the high standards we’ve set.
