Transitions Launches Signature GEN 8

Transitions Optical has launched its next generation of Transitions Signature lenses – Transitions Signature GEN 8 –presented in seven lens colours – sapphire, amethyst, emerald, amber, graphite green, brown and grey.

This next generation of Transitions Signature lenses comes six years after the launch of Transitions Signature VII lenses. It has been developed on the back of surveys with over 76,000 glasses wearers and more than 4,000 professionals over five years to determine the key attributes for a photochromic lens.

Transitions Optical’s research revealed wearers want a complete and balanced photochromic lens, with Transitions Signature VII wearers stating they wanted faster fade back without compromising lens darkness.

Transitions says its new Signature GEN 8 lens technology fulfils these needs without compromise, being up to three minutes faster to fade back and 30% faster to activate. Not only are the lenses faster, they are even darker than previous Transitions generations.

Transitions Signature Gen 8 also blocks 100% of UV rays and filters blue light from devices, screens and LED lights. Blue light filtering is increased outdoors where it’s needed most, with the sun being the highest emitter of blue light. Transitions Signature GEN 8 also provides longer lasting performance over time, increasing value and satisfaction for wearers.

“Research shows glasses wearers and eye care professionals want it all in a photochromic lens,” said Stuart Cannon, Transitions Optical General Manager, Asia Pacific. “The challenge with photochromic technology is if one attribute is improved, then another attribute will be compromised. For example, if you improve speed then darkness is likely to be compromised.

“The breakthrough of Transitions Signature GEN 8 lens technology is we’ve improved both speed and darkness without any compromise through a fully reinvented photochromic system, including a reinvented matrix and photochromic dyes.”

He said this has been achieved by combining a disruptive nano-composite matrix and a new generation of ultra-agile photochromic dyes.

Using unique Life 360 testing to compare the previous generation with Transitions Signature GEN 8, Transitions states that Transitions Signature GEN 8 is a new frontier of performance. Wearer tests revealed:

  • 9/10 wearers are satisfied with TransitionsSignature GEN 8,
  • 7/10 clear lens wearers would considerTransitions Signature GEN 8 for theirnext glasses purchase,
  • 7/10 younger wearers would considerTransitions Signature GEN 8 for theirnext glasses purchase, and
  • 8/10 wearers would recommend TransitionsSignature GEN 8 to others.

“With the launch of Transitions Signature GEN 8, more clear lens wearers than ever – of all ages – are now considering Transitions lenses,” said Mr Cannon.

“Not only is the breakthrough technology inspiring and recruiting new wearers, the range of seven colours allows wearers to experiment with their look by combining Transitions lens colours with different frame styles, colours and textures.”
