
UNSW SOVS PhD candidate Sidra Sarwat is a recipient of the 2020 Joe and Janet Barr Early Career Cornea and Contact Lens Research Award from the American Academy of Optometry Foundation.
The Joe and Janet Barr Early Career Cornea and Contact Lens Research Award was established in 2012 and is awarded to a postgraduate student who exhibits “extraordinary contributions to optometry and contact lenses”. The award provides the recipient with $2,000 for research project seed funding in the area of cornea/ocular surface or contact lenses.
Ms Sarwat is currently undertaking her PhD at UNSW School of Optometry and Vision Science under the supervision of Dr Maitreyee Roy, Scientia Professor Fiona Stapleton, Professor Mark Willcox and Professor Richard Tilley. Her research project is titled “In vivo labelling and bioimaging of the tear film using silicon quantum dots”.
Along with funding towards her research, Ms Sarwat will receive a $750 travel fellowship to attend the American Academy of Optometry Meeting.
