RANZCO Welcomes New Closing the Gap Agreement

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) has welcomed the new Closing the Gap Agreement announced on 30 July 2020.

For the first time, there will be targets focused on reducing incarceration rates, improving housing quality and tackling the unacceptably high suicide rates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The new targets have arisen through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership and extensive consultation with communities across Australia.

the College said it looks forward to supporting the new Closing the Gap partnership through collaborations

RANZCO congratulates the Coalition of Peaks on the dedication and leadership shown to reach this agreement.

In a statement, the College said it looks forward to supporting the new Closing the Gap partnership through collaborations with government and the health sector to improve eye health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In November 2019 RANZCO launched its Reconciliation Action Plan. RANZCO is committed to the reconciliation process with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
