Bigger, Better: Blue Sky Moves to February 2021

Adelaide’s Blue Sky has been rescheduled to 26-27 February 2021 and registration fees have been discounted by $100 per person.

The boutique educational conference, originally scheduled for November 2020, is now being planned to comply with Optometry Board Australia’s (OBA) new system for CPD.

Pete Haydon, Chief Executive Officer of Optometry Victoria South Australia (OV/SA), said his Board had taken the “unprecedented decision to move Blue Sky 2020 to February 2021” in response to member feedback about challenges preventing them from registering to attend the conference in November.

By February we hope that members… are more likely to have increased confidence to enjoy a weekend away for some well-earned educational frivolity

“In light of the year we’ve had, we weren’t expecting the conference to be as big as usual, but we did want to get optometrists and our trade partners together and to offer the atmosphere that Blue Sky is renowned for,” Mr Haydon said.

“By February we hope that members from across Victoria, South Australia and wider Australia are more likely to have increased confidence to enjoy a weekend away for some well-earned educational frivolity.

“Our trade partners are also having a challenging year and for some it has been difficult for them to commit to conferences at this time. By moving Blue Sky to the end of February, they can anticipate a greater number of face-to-face delegates and have confidence that participation will be worth their while.”

With the new CPD system being introduced on 1 December 2020, Mr Haydon said the Association wants to deliver high quality, comprehensive education to as many optometrists as possible. He said expert help will be on hand at Blue Sky to ensure optometrists fully understand the new requirements and will be CPD compliant by the end of 2021.

Discounted Fees and Crèche

To make attending Blue Sky easier, the full conference in-person registration has been discounted by $100 per person, and discounts are also available for other in-person registration categories. Additionally, a free crèche will be available on both days of the conference for members, with fees applicable for non-members.

People who registered for the November dates have the option to reschedule (with a refund of the difference), take a full refund or a credit note. Virtual attendees can expect a transfer of their registration to the new date, a full refund or a credit note.
