Budding optical dispensers and optometry practices that have not already taken advantage of the Boosting Apprenticeships Commencement program (The BAC) should now jump on board without hesitation.
On Tuesday 9 March, 2021, the Federal Government announced significant changes to The BAC, which take effect immediately, offering a 50% employee wage subsidy worth up to AU$28,000 and providing more opportunities for participation.
Previously, the program had a cap of 100,000 places nationwide, and was only planned to operate until 30 September, 2021.
The BAC (offers) a 50% employee wage subsidy worth up to AU$28,000… the program will run for another year, until 30 September, 2022
But as part of the Government’s COVID-related economic stimulus, and in view of the popularity of the program, the 100,000 cap has been removed and the program will run for another year, until 30 September, 2022.
Any employer who supports an eligible staff member to enrol into the approved Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing HLT47815 with an accredited college (such as ACOD or TAFE) will receive a 50% wage subsidy for that employee, worth up to $28,000. Depending on the employment status of the staff member, further financial support may also apply.
