Vision Eye Institute has opened a new eye clinic in Kanwal on the Central Coast of New South Wales.
The brand-new fully equipped clinic, Vision Eye Institute Tuggerah Lakes, is led by experienced Australian ophthalmologist Dr Rushmia Karim and conveniently located in the Kanwal Medical Complex and the medical precinct of Wyong Public Hospital on the Pacific Highway. It will offer the residents of Kanwal and surrounding areas general ophthalmic consultations, a paediatric service, diagnostic testing and minor procedures. Surgical procedures will be performed at Tuggerah Lakes Private Hospital (across the road from the clinic).

Dr Rushmia Karim is an Australian-trained doctor, with over a decade of specialist experience. She completed her specialist training in the highly regarded London ophthalmology vocational program, including the world-famous Moorfields Eye Hospital. She also completed the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital fellowship program in paediatrics and squint surgery. Prior to returning to Sydney, Dr Karim was Head of the Paediatric Eye Service at the distinguished Prince Charles Eye Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital Trust, UK. She is extensively involved in research, publishing numerous papers in prestigious journals and presenting her research at international conferences. She is also fluent in Bengali.
Dr Karim’s main areas of specialty are children’s eye health, strabismus surgery in children and adults, cataract and lens surgery, nerve-related vision problems and general ophthalmology. Additionally, she diagnoses and treats other eye conditions, including diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, pterygium and dry eye.
