Dr Holly Chinnery, an internationally recognised expert in basic science research into corneal immunology, inflammation and neuroimmunology, is just one of many high profile speakers who will present at O=MEGA21. The long awaited event, that brings together the most credentialed and largest annual optometry conference in the Southern Hemisphere with the largest eye care and eyewear show in Australia, will take place from 2 – 4 September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Dr Chinnery will conduct a session entitled Therapeutics: anatomy refresher. A teaching and research academic in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences (The University of Melbourne), and head of the Corneal and Ocular Immunology laboratory, Dr Chinnery is a long-standing member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). She is currently on the ARVO awards committee, and is an Associate Editor for Clinical and Experimental Optometry and Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology.
Speaking of the forthcoming conference she said, “I am thrilled to be attending O=MEGA 21, on the land of the Kulin nation…. I am excited about updating attendees on some of the recent advances in our understanding of the ultrastructure of the cornea, and discussing how this may influence the barrier function of this dynamic tissue. I will also share some exciting findings from my laboratory; specifically our recent preclinical study using decorin therapy to treat corneal nerve damage and target stromal inflammation in mice.”
O=MEGA21 has been developed by ODMA and Optometry Victoria South Australia and will offer optometrists 22.5 continued professional development (CPD) hours including up to 10 therapeutic and five interactive hours (with assessment). All sessions comply with new Optometry Board Australia CPD requirements.
In addition to the conference, O=MEGA21 offers an expansive tradeshow comprising over 100 exhibitors, Masterclass sessions with dedicated dispensing and practice management streams (fees apply); as well as window dressing and business building tips. To enable you to make the most of the conference, tradeshow and networking opportunities, a fully staffed childcare centre will be available at the venue (fees apply).
