Vision Eye Institute marks 20 years of providing ophthalmic services, including specialist eye care, research and education in Australia, with the launch of Future Vision Foundation and Vision Hospital Group.
As a not-for-profit charity, the Future Vision Foundation will support the next generation of researchers to improve healthcare outcomes and experience for patients.

“Through the not-for-profit Future Vision Foundation, we can do more to encourage and support the research endeavours of our staff and associated clinicians. Support will be in the form of funding, clinical resources, new initiatives and mentoring,” said James Thiedeman, Vision Eye Institute CEO.
“The Foundation looks forward to working alongside other research organisations within ophthalmology, optometry and industry, and contributing to the excellent research already being undertaken in Australia.”
Alongside this, Vision Hospital Group has been launched to combine Vision Eye Institute’s ten existing day surgeries under one banner. These greenfield day hospitals provide world-class technology and equipment to support professional care in communities across Australia.
“Vision Hospital Group’s core philosophy is the practice of surgery deserves a highly focused, specialist environment where surgeons are supported to perform at their best and patients experience exemplary, seamless care,” says Mr Thiedeman.
“We genuinely believe we provide world-class care, along with the infrastructure and know-how to meet the growing needs of local communities. While continuing to work closely with ophthalmologists, we now also partner with surgeons in the fields of gastroenterology, pain management, plastic surgery, dermatology and urology to name a few.”
Beginning in 2001 as Vision Group, the world’s first publicly listed ophthalmic company, today the Vision Eye Institute team consists of 130 doctors and nearly 500 ancillary staff who care for more than 100,000 patients each year.
