First for O-SHOW22

For the first time, O-SHOW22 in Sydney next month (27-28 May) will offer educational sessions on retail, dispensing and practice establishment.

The sessions will take place in the Hordern Pavilion’s conference room within the O-SHOW22 venue.

Masterclasses for front-of-house staff, run in collaboration with Optometry NSW/ACT, will include tips for performing visual fields, ocular emergencies and triaging, and ocular imaging. Attendees will gain insights and have the chance to ask questions.

Crowd favourite, Steve Daras, will run daily sessions on quality dispensing as well as advanced dispensing. Mr Daras has been in the optical field since 1975, having managed a low vision clinic and been assistant manager for a national ophthalmic instruments company. He also ran a successful private practice for 16 years. Mr Daras has been teaching Certificate IV Optical Dispensing since 1995 and is the optical dispensing course coordinator for TAFE NSW. He has written and/or reviewed many optical resources and, in 2014, co-authored optical text books.

O-SHOW22 will also offer a daily 90 minute workshop session on topics from ODMA’s very popular program ‘Start Your Own Independent Practice’, copresented by well-known Emma Gillies of Purple Key Consulting and Kathy Allen of Dewings Accountants. Ms Allen has over 30 years’ experience providing tax and business advice to businesses, including medical and ophthalmic professionals. Co-sponsored by Young Optometrists, these sessions will provide valuable advice on topics ranging from financial tips to business planning and choosing a practice location.
