PMA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Roger Cronin with Dr Robyn Armstrong.
PresMed Australia (PMA) has acquired a majority interest in MetWest Eye Centre and MetWest Surgical, which is located in Blacktown. For over 30 years MetWest, founded and headed by Dr Robyn Armstrong, has been the leader in providing local ophthalmology services to Blacktown and Sydney’s greater western suburbs. Dr Armstrong will maintain an ongoing presence in the business and continue to be an active provider to the community.
PMA has also taken a shareholding in the Devonport Eye Hospital (DEH) and the practices of North West Eye Surgeons (NWES) in Tasmania. DEH is a one theatre ophthalmic specialty day surgery opened in 2014 with co-located consulting rooms of NWES, and additional consulting rooms in Burnie.
Over the next few years, PMA plans to increase its DEH and NWES shareholding until it becomes the majority owner of both businesses
Led by Dr Michael Haybittel since 1996, NWES has been servicing Tasmania’s north west coast community for over 60 years, has three ophthalmologists supported by a team of ophthalmic experts. Over the next few years, PMA plans to increase its current minority shareholding until it becomes the majority owner of both businesses.
The Tasmanian acquisition is PMA’s first purchase outside of New South Wales. PMA also has facilities in Chatswood Private Hospital, Epping Surgery Centre, Central Coast Day Hospital, Madison Day Surgery, MetWest Surgical, MetWest Eye Centre and Laser Vision Clinic Central Coast.
PMA’s Chief Executive Officer, Roger Cronin said the new facilities “will emphasise supporting and working with doctors and specialist staff to meet the ophthalmic needs of the community. Patients will be able to look forward to first class facilities and meticulous level of care that the PMA Group of hospitals and consulting practices are known for.”
As part of the PMA Group, the new acquisitions have access to the many advantages available to businesses under its umbrella. These include having access to PMA’s expert industry knowledge, Group health fund negotiations and corporate buying power, clinical and corporate quality and risk management programs including accreditation, financial and business acumen including cost efficiencies, dedicated corporate staff and the strong value of the trusted industry-leading PresMed Australia name.
