St John of God Subiaco Hospital Opens Dedicated Eye Hospital

St John of God Subiaco Hospital in Perth, Western Australia, has opened a dedicated eye hospital to serve the needs of residents of Subiaco and surrounds.

Opened on 10 October, all surgery performed by St John of God Subiaco Hospital ophthalmologists will now be undertaken at the new facility, which is located directly across the road from St John of God Subiaco Hospital at 190 Cambridge Street.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital has provided ophthalmology services to members of the Western Australian community for more than a century

The site was formerly that of St John of God Wembley Day Surgery.

St John of God Subiaco Hospital CEO Tina Chinery said that the new facility is dedicated to caring for eyes.

“We are excited to open this new facility to improve the experience for our patients undergoing eye procedures and treatments by fast-tracking their time in hospital and providing specialist support focused on their clinical needs,” she said.

“Care and services will be delivered to patients by caregivers who are specially trained in ophthalmology services and will benefit from ongoing guidance of an onsite clinical nurse educator, creating a comprehensive environment of excellence.

“We have also invested in the latest ophthalmic technologies and equipment, including new ophthalmic patient chairs, which patients will remain on throughout their surgical journey, from the pre-admission process to recovery, making their experience more comfortable and efficient.”

“St John of God Subiaco Hospital has provided ophthalmology services to members of the Western Australian community for more than a century, with our patients benefiting from the expertise of more than 30 of the State’s leading ophthalmologists.”

The facility was officially opened by St John of God Health Care Board Chair Hon Kerry Sanderson AC AO at an opening and blessing ceremony.

St John of God Wembley Day Surgery closed on Friday 23 September, with procedures traditionally undertaken at the day surgery now conducted at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.
