mivision Issue 185 December 2022

Did you notice 2022 go by?

It’s been a whirlwind of a year, punctuated by COVID restrictions, conferences and a changing guard. Same, same, but different, you might say.

There have been highlights – among them the much anticipated arrival of innovative products like Hoya’s MiyoSmart and Essilor’s Stellest lenses for myopia, Roche’s Vybysmo for wet age-related macular degeneration, and a penguin in New Zealand that made full recovery following cataract surgery.

There have been low moments – among them the passing of three great contributors to eye health in Australia – Dr Con Moshegov, Richard Grills and most recently, Professor Brian Layland.

There has been significant change in leadership in key organisations guiding eye health: RANZCO, Glaucoma Australia, Macular Disease Foundation Australia, Optometry Australia, ProVision, and Vision 2020. And of course, Australia’s Health Minister with the change of federal government.

At mivision we’ve also had a year of growth and change, with Maren Carson joining us as Head of Partnerships and Michelle Hauschild returning to write. We’ve farewelled Emily Gibbs, who has taken the next step in her career. Our journal has continued to grow and is now, on average, 132 pages each month. Our CPD offering is increasingly sought out by optometrists, both in Australia and overseas.

We couldn’t achieve all of this without the expert ophthalmologists, optometrists and academics who generously share their expertise each month. This enables us to consistently publish articles that inform, educate, and promote collaborative health care with the ultimate aim of always improving patient

Thank you to our contributors, our readers, and our advertisers. And thank you to the incredible team at mivision who work tirelessly and support each other ferociously, through change and challenge, to get mivision out.

I wish you all the best for the festive season.

Enjoy this issue. We look forward to bringing you more in 2023.
