Johnny Depp caused a stir when he wore AM Eyewear’s Ava in Mellow Yellow frames at the defamation trial of Depp vs Heard in 2022.
Ava in Mellow Yellow was one of the 75 frames produced in a limited edition over eight years ago so they were well and truly off the retail market. However, the frame began appearing on Ebay, fetching as much as (AU)$2,000 a pair, and the team at AM Eyewear were pressured to re-release it.
Sticking to the ethos of ‘Limited Edition’, AM Eyewear decided not to fold. Instead, they came up with Tommy, a new colour way with just 50 units available for customers worldwide.
Given that it was a domestic violence hearing that put the frame back into the spotlight, AM Eyewear will donate a portion of the profits generated from sales of Tommy to Friends with Dignity. This Australian not for profit organisation works to improve quality of life for adults and children impacted by domestic violence. It provides financial and tangible resources, programs and scholarships; and acts to enhance the personal safety of these individuals.
